After SP2 , internet problems!!
Recently. I lost an 80gb hd. One way to fill in the
blanks from the loss was to service pack my xp install. So I did so through MS update. It went smoothly until I started surfing again. I started to notice severe problems browsing certain sites. One site that is severly slowed down is Ebay.com, even Microsoft. I've also noticed sony.com and suprnova.org completely freeze up my browser. I cannot end the task through task manager. Nor can I end the task through a 3rd party process killer. I investigated what was happening when the process was frozen, and I noticed through the performance monitor that it was moving 40000 operations to and from the system. But no I/O bytes were moving to the file system... Just messages to and from the CPU. I also noticed that the CPU was being split equally between IE and SYSTEM, as if every single message was being answered by the system, but it didnt know what it was asking. Im not sure. Here's the pickle. I figured i'd try to use a different browser, so i started up Netscape, and visited the same sites, and the same problem occured. This tells me its deeper than IE. Its somewhere else in the system. I don't think its TCP/IP. because i see little to NO tcp/ip activity when this problem happens. One thing I do know is that one of the sites that flatlines the computer has Iframes in it. I have not yet tested if this is the reason for the lockup, but its an idea i've had. I'll look more into this soon. I normally dont come to newsgroups for help. But this time, i'm completely lost. I really dont want to format restore, as there is huge ammounts of work on this machine that I don't have time to redo. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Hi Brandon,
Do some reading here and good luck! http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...ic.windowsxp.* http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...rames+problems Added info: Run the Task Manager, go to View/Select Columns, and turn on the following columns: "I/O Read Bytes" and "I/O Write Bytes." This will give you details as to which process is accessing the disk. Although many processes will be accessing the disk, look for one with a high total or a fast rate of increase, especially when you hear the drive being accessed.
