Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem.
Problem Description: I get this pop up window every time I turn on my laptop.
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.5512 szModName : wuaueng.dll szModVer : 7.2.6001.784 offset : 000e3e14 error report contents: c:\Docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\wer7283.dir00\svch ost.exe.mdmp c:\Docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\wer7283.dir00\appc ompat.txt If I select any one of the options offered: Debug, Send Error Report, Don't send Report, my computer freezes up and I'm forced to manually shut off. If I don't do anything, when I try to turn off the computer it gets frozen and I have to manually power it off too. Also, since I started getting this pop up window, a couple of times I've gone to the windows update sight but when I click on it to update it freezes up as well. I have XP SP3 installed. I tried doing a system restore a few times but that freezes too. aargh! I've been diligent about keeping my laptop clean. I have norton antivirus, spysweeper, zone alarm and ccleaner. I'm getting to the point where I'm seriously thinking of erasing the entire hard drive and starting fresh but that is the LAST thing I would lprefer to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Yolanda
Please post the complete Stop Error ( BSOD) Report. Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before Automatically Restart. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message. An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on system failure. Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration? A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us If you are able to boot disable the Automatic Update service. Start, Control Panel, Administratives Tools, Services. Right click on Automatic Updates, select Properties, and change the Start-Up type from Automatic to Disabled. Note the Arrow Down to the right of Automatic. This will leave you with the problem of restoring the Windows Update process. -- Hope this helps.
