Two things:

1. You should make sure no security programs (especially McAfee and
AdAware) are running when you upgrade IE.

2. McAfee is a well-known resource hog that negatively affects a PC's
performance. Even AdAware, which is no longer recommended by most
people, can contribute to sluggishness. There are superior programs. If
you're interested, we can make recommendations.

What SP level are you at?

You may need to unsintall IE8 in order to temporarily revert to IE6. But
don't do this until you tell us what SP level you are at and when you
upgraded to it.

When it is time, we can post links to the "best-practices" method to
upgrade IE. It involves using a specific installation file which you can
download in advance and making sure all your security programs are
temporarily not running. (Obviously, you should be disconnected to the
Internet while doing this.) And if I remember correctly, rebooting your
PC not once but twice!

NB: All McAfee processes (i.e., anti-virus; firewall) & Ad-Watch should have
been disabled & the Windows Firewall enabled prior to installing IE8.

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

= Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 &
IE8 in all OSS]

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

Since this symptom is reproducible, try the sequence after disabling McAfee,
Ad-aware, or anything else that might conceivably be interacting with IE8
(including ad-ons).

O.K. I deleted ADAWARE and CCLEANER, and kept McAfee Virus Scan Plus.

Computer starts faster now with better browsing. Am i at risk now for all
kinds of stuff getting on my computer? What do you folks suggest?
