Default XP wont boot up

It's the screen is frozen in blue with white write writing:
"The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly
with a status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been
shut down."

My wife said she initiated some kind of an update??

Was it a device driver?

titleA Stop: 0xc000026C or Stop: 0xc0000221 "Unable to Load Device Driver" Error Occurs When You Start Windows XP/title

I can't even reboot in safe mode. Every time I reboot, it returns to this error message and no key
affects any start up process.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

You probably need to roll back the driver update.

BTW WU newsgroup is not the best place to be looking for help
with this symptom. Cross-posting to an XP NG for convenience.

Good luck

Default XP wont boot up

Background information on Stop Error message
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797159.aspx

This occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode
subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS),
is compromised. Security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can't
run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the
failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This
Stop message also can occur as a result of malware infestation or when the
computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions
so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access
system files and folders.
