Can't Open Backup Archive
While doing a search using Windows Explorer, I keep getting an error:
'An error occurred when opening the backup archive' Says the backup might be corrupted or mounted as a disk. I have done nothing new that I know of, and I have never seen this error in the past. So any suggestions how to solve this? XieXie Wei |

Just *which* "file search" are you using? The Windows [Desktop] Search (an update to Windows XP that you choose to install)? A 3rd party (non-Microsoft) search utility? The Search panel shown in the left-side Explorer Bar of Windows Explorer (and with or without the cutsy wizard)? You sure it is an error from Windows Explorer or might it be due to whatever backup program you are using? Like the one described at: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/11515 Maybe Acronis True Image (ATI) modifies, enhances, or replaces the Windows Explorer search function with its own and maybe ATI lets its search look through its backup files (by temporarily mounting them). Or maybe your search (not described here) included the ATI mounted drive. When the error occurs, it is displayed by Windows Explorer or some other process? Is the error message in its own windows and not, say, in the status bar of Windows Explorer? If it has its own window, use SysInternals' Process Explorer (PE) to find out which process owns that window. Load PE, generate the error and leave its window open, and use the sniper target toolbar icon in PE to click on it and then click on the window. PE will highlight which process owns that window. |
