Default system policies on xp

i have a compaq xp laptop. i tried to uninstall norton
2002 with my cd and it said "administrator's system
policies will not allow this
operation". it also goes on a LAN at work in addition
to carrying it around and doing dial-up. i tried
typing in "poledit" at the command line but it didn't work.

a friend told me that to uninstall and install some
applications in XP I need to login as administrator under
the old login style where it asks for the username and
password. how do i do that? right now, i just have the
graphic user buttons that i click to login. and , after i
login in as administrator, then how and where do i go to
change the policy so i can uninstall norton and install a
new one? is there anything else that could be the problem
here besides what i suspect? any help would be
appreciated. thanks.

Add the first account that you made your first attempts to uninstall Norton
to the Local Administrators group.
