new XP user with meesenger problems

I rencently bought new XP machine. Prior to this, I used
netmeeting with messenger 6.0 to teleconference with
family (who are currently running win98). With the new
machine I have windows messenger and MSN messenger 6.0
installed. What is the best way to continue the video
conferences. I am able to see the other members with
webcam, but cannot hear them. I obviously cannot use
netmeeting as I used to. Is there a way to continue using
netmeeting? If ont, is it better to use MSN messenger 6.0
or windows messenger? Thanks for any help you can
provide!!
