Product Key on slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 ?
I have a retail version of XP Pro SP1, I updated to SP2. I uninstalled
Nero and my DVD burner disappeared. Device Manager could see it but couldn't load the device driver for it (error 41). I did a hardware scan with no effect. I then did a reinstall / repair of XP Sp2. I copied the contents of the CD to my hard drive via network share. I then slipstreamed SP2 to that folder. I ran setup / upgrade and all was well until Product Key time. It seems the slipstreamed folder won't accept the product key, and I can't get out of the setup loop. Any suggestions ? I'd like to try to get back to my computer's desktop and try to do a restore from a restore point (if I still can) thanx Jeff |

Product Key on slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 ?
Very interesting. The only key problems I've seen are when attempting to mix
key types with setupp.ini designations - i.e., trying to use a retail key with an OEM CD. Look at the CDs setupp.ini and see what the key type is - do a google on XP setupp.ini and you'll find a page describing how to decipher the entry. That will help you at least diagnose if it is a key/CD issue. Venger "Jeff" wrote in message ... I have a retail version of XP Pro SP1, I updated to SP2. Well, I checked the setupp.ini, and it states I have a retail install
version. Jeff Venger wrote: Very interesting. The only key problems I've seen are when attempting to mix key types with setupp.ini designations - i.e., trying to use a retail key with an OEM CD. Hmmm... SP2 did include some changes to weed out bad corporate keys, it may
be some collateral damage in the key checking changes that were made. I actually saw something similary once, where a Dell wouldn't accept the key that was right on the side of the case. And this was a brand new computer. May be the kind of thing a MS Licensing operator has to handle for you. They've been good in the past with activation/key issues whenever I've called them, on both XP and 2003. Venger "Jeff" wrote in message ... To tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge it into the registry You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use. -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows Technologies) Bournemouth, U.K. (remove the D8 bit) |
