Default slowdown after hotfix

My computer seems to have inexplicably slowed down of late........I
installed the 811493 hotfix mentioned below on April 16th and have noticed
problems ever since. I read the reply below to a similar problem, but have a
couple of questions:

1. What is an "xp sp 1" machine? I'm running XP pro but am not familiar with
this

2. Is there a way to remove this hotfix without using system restore?

Thanks in advance....-Steve

"this is likely due to the 811493 hotfix, which has known performance
slowdown issues when installed on xp sp1 machines (it should not effect
non-sp1 machines, though). if you remove this hotfix then you problems will
likely go away. ms is currently working on a fix and, when available, it
will be linked to this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/ms03-013.asp"

Yes, 811493 can cause perf problems. Uninstall 811493 using Control
Panel / Add/Remove programs.

XP SP1 = Windows XP with Service Pack 1 installed - if installed, SP1
also should appear in Add Remove programs and in Right Click / My
Computer properties. (There is no need to uninstall SP1 for the slow
down issue.)
