There's another thing I've noticed
about Yahoo. Sometimes when I backspace
nothing happens, even when I click
nothing. It sometimes takes two clicks
to return to the main page. Now that's
not right.

They put so many ads etc on these days
it boughs everything else down. It sure
would be nice to go to clean news page
with nothing but news instead of all
this junk.

I've tried to personalize Yahoo before
but didn't see much difference.

I noticed another thing today, kind of hard not to.
I opened a story about the elections and had a couple
of other tabs open at the time and it froze everything
so that I had to open device manager and close all the
tabs.

They definitely have done something to make the site
user unfriendly. Also I get tired of reading the same
news day after day but that's all sites nowadays but
Yahoo sure has more than its share of negative stories.

The Yahoo site uses scrolling technology.

As you scroll down the page, old articles are pulled in.
The intention, is to make the page look "infinitely long".

As this is happening, the Flash windows are also affected.
As you scroll down, there is a need to load new Flash windows.
Now, a smart design, would be to unload and disable the
previous Flash windows further up the page (the ones you can
no longer see). This would conserve resources.

Off to the right hand side, new advertising resources
(animated GIF or Flash) are added too.

I've seen a few other websites that use this technique.
The web page does not load (entirely) on invocation.
As you scroll down, more content is pulled up from the
archives. The material at the top of the page is
fresh. But if you scroll down long enough, you'll hit
some pretty old material (a first-person story about
Noah's Ark perhaps) :-)

That seems such a waste of resources especially
considering they run the same stories day after
day. Its not even news anymore but more like a
rag sheet with whatever bring in the biggest
headlines no matter what is may be.

I had to chuckle over your last sentence. *L*

btw,, I heard that 95% of Google employees are
H1B from India. Would you know if that's true?

There are some numbers here.

The ones at the top of the list, are the companies
that replace North American IT staff with Indians.
Google is 17th in the list, but that's a rating
on direct hires, versus using some Indian company
in a subcontract.

It really bothers me that these companies
hire these people and subcontract and
outsource instead of hiring very capable
Americans all for the sake of greed.

We had a funny case here, where a bank fired
all their IT staff, and used a company from
the top of that list, to fill the positions.

But before the staff were fired, their last
job definition was to train the new hires who
would be taking their jobs.

Anything to save a buck.

Unfortunately, that has been happening
everywhere or they just outsource the entire
operation to India as you say, just to
save a buck never thinking of the long
term effects but only short term profits.

Remember when I was talking about
the whine I get from the 8200 housing
tabs in the back and every so often
I have to mess around with them to
get it to stop whining.

I think I may have a possible solution
although I haven't tried it as yet. Since
there's no room to slip a thin piece of
insulation in-between I thought I would
scrap a small amount of beeswax onto the
tabs which may insulate them.

As I said, I'm a pipe smoker and I use
beeswax on pipe stems that are either too
tight or too loose. It works for both.

So I may just open up the 8200 today and
give it a try. If it works it would make
the 8200 much quieter

I just applied the beeswax to all the
tabs on the fan housing. So we'll see
if that takes care of the whine.

I'll say this, it sounds allot quieter
now than before.I just hope it stays
like this.

Well, it didn't work. The 8200 stayed quiet
most of the night but just now I heard the
whine again.

Its possible the heat from the computer was
enough to soften the beeswax and thus plastic
against metal again.

You'd think that those who designed the
computers would realize this and provide for
it.

I use old bicycle tube rubber for dampening.
As long as it's not put in a place where it
will get hot.
