How to: Prevent Zip folders from opening on download
I clicked the wrong thing, and can't return to normal. When I download a
zip folder, I DO NOT want it to open automatically. I want the dialog box that gives me the option to save it to disk. I've lost that option. How do I get it back? : )))) Something's Fishy Around Here |

The KB article Thorsten referenced comes close, but isn't correct for XP.
For XP go to Folder Options, File Types. Locate the ZIP entry, highlight it and click Advanced. Then check Confirm open after download. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows XP/ Windows Smart Display Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Associate Expert ExpertZone - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Ok, I don't know why the Advanced button is missing, but you may be able to
work around this manually. Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CompressedFolder Look in the right pane for a value called EditFlags. Double click this value and set it to 0 (zero). It will appear as 0x00000000 -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows XP/ Windows Smart Display Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Associate Expert ExpertZone - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
