Adding an external hard drive
Hi Skip,
I dont know about Wester Digital drives, but on some Seagate Hard drives , i have seen that there is a jumper setting to limit the hard drive space (in my instance it was a 40 GB hard disk and you could limit the size to 32 GB through jumper settings). So please check the jumper settings/manual of the HD, it may be offering to decrease the size from 180 GB to 128 GB through some jumper settings. -- All the best, Anando "Skip Holmes" wrote in message ... Need a little help. I placed an 180GB Western Digital hard drive into an external USB 2.0 case. Windows XP only reads the drive size as 128 GB. What gives? I'm seeing bigger hard drives on the market and am wondering what people are doing to get them to work. I have crawled all over the Microsoft support site trying to get an idea of the size limitation issues, but really couldn't get any good information. Do I solve the issue with a BIOS upgrade (I have the most current Award BIOS), third party software, or give up and just buy a 120 GB drive? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks; Skip Holmes |
