system volume informatione
Whenever I defrag the computer it can never defrag a list of files called
system volume information/restore and then a bunch of numbers and letters, these files are taking up about 5 gigs of room on my hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these files please. |

those files are files created by system restore. you can delete all but the
most recent restore point by running Disk Cleanup on the drive. In My Computer, right-click the drive, go to Properties, and then click on Disk Cleanup. Once there, click on the More Options tab, and click on the cleanup button in the System Restore section. that should delete most of the files. System Volume Information contains your restore points.
You can, if you wish, reduce the amount of space allocated to restore points. This will, of course, reduce the number of restore points Windows can create. -- Ted Zieglar "You can do it if you try." From a practical standpoint, as the files are very seldom accessed, their fragmentation, if any, is not important. Jim |

Hi Steven,
There is no need to defrag the SVI folder. I would suggest reducing the amount of space uses to hold restore points to save space and reduce problems with System Restore. Here are some tips on adjusting disk space and keeping System Restore Healthy. http://bertk.mvps.org/html/healthy.html#AdjustDiskSpace -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org steven29 wrote: Whenever I defrag the computer it can never defrag a list of files called system volume information/restore and then a bunch of numbers and letters, these files are taking up about 5 gigs of room on my hard drive.
