Hal, you said that "I used my cell phone to call my fax printer."

Do you have a separate multi-function printer/scanner/fax that you are
attempting to use, or do you have a fax modem INSIDE your computer case?
And if you have BOTH devices, do you have a telephone line connected
to the fax modem in your computer, or only to the printer/scanner/fax?

I'm about out of ideas.

What happened when you tried test #3? Based on your reported results of
test #1, I guess that your cell phone never rang.

Test #3 is intended to see if you can send a fax just using the Send Fax
Wizard. That is, not attempting to fax a document saved in "My
Documents" (or elsewhere on your computer). It will not actually send a
fax (even if everything works correctly), because I suggested sending it
to your cell phone -- which, of course, can not receive faxes. If your
cell phone rings and you can hear fax tones on it, however, that will
indicate that the software and the outgoing portion of your fax modem
are working.

The success of test #2 indicates 2 things: (1) you actually do have a
fax modem, which at least has its receiver operating correctly, and (2)
you have correctly connected the modem to an analog telephone line.

The fact that you have been unable to send faxes could be caused by
software problems or hardware problems. Test #1 was intended to
(temporarily) separate hardware issues from software issues by
scheduling the fax to be sent in the future. The fact that nothing
appeared in the Fax Console Outbox suggests that something is wrong with
your installation of Fax Services.

Do you have Windows XP Home or Pro? What service pack is installed? If
you're not sure, right click on My Computer and then click on
Properties. Do you have any Symantec or Norton product installed? Which
one(s)? Did Dell pre-install any other fax software?

About the only thing left that I can think of is to remove Windows Fax
Services and then re-install it, paying careful attention to any error
messages that may appear during the installation.

See Help & Support "Add or Remove a Windows Component" or MS KB 307894.
KB 306550 explains how to install and configure Fax Services.

Hal Hostetler, My document shows on the Window Picture And Fax Viewer. It
has a print funtion below the printed doc. but doesn't show any printer to
use,not a FAX printer. If I print nothing happens,no FAX wizard

"Hal Hostetler [MVP P/I]" wrote:

OK, you've got this document you want to fax. If you double click the

printer to use? If it will, do you see a printer named "Fax" in the list?
If Fax is listed as a printer, what happens wen you select it and click

does it finish and tell you it sent your Fax? Please remember, we cannot

Open the Fax Console and click on "Configure Fax." Go through the "Fax
Configuration Wizard" and fill in the blanks as appropriate. On the
screen headed "Select Device for Sending or Receiving Faxes" make sure
to check the boxes next to "Enable Send" and "Enable Receive." Set
either to manual answer or auto answer as desired.

The last screen says "You have successfully completed the Fax
Configuration Wizard" and shows a summary of settings. They should look
something like this:

Configuration Summary:

Devices configured to send faxes:
Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem
The TSID of these devices is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Devices configured to receive faxes:
Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem
Devices are configured to automatically answer incoming fax
calls after 2 rings.
The CSID of these devices is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

If yours looks like that, the problem may be that your modem is (a) not
working properly or (b) not compatible with Windows XP Fax. If your
modem shows as "Modem Intel(R)537epv9xdf" that unfortunately is not the
name of the modem manufacturer but the identification of the chipset
used in the modem, so I can't see if it's on the "Hardware Compatibility
List." If you know the actual make and model of your modem, go to
http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Default.aspx?m=x and check to see if it
is OK for use with XP.

Open Device Manager (e.g., right click on My Computer, select
Properties, on Hardware tab, click "Device Manager"). Go to the Modems
entry, click on the +, the right click on the modem identification and
select properties. Does "Device status" indicate "This device is working
properly"? Under "Device usage" does it say "Use this device (enable)"?
Go to the "Diagnostics" tab. Click the "Query modem" button. What
does it say for the response to "AT+FCLASS=?"

Click the "View log" button, and see if there appear to be any error
messages there. See the second post above from Gary Walker.

Default How to send a fax from a scanned document?

On my Windows XP Pro computer, the Picture and Fax viewer has a printer icon
below the view window. If I click it, I launch the Photo Printing Wizard.
The first dialog from this wizard lets me pick what image I want to print.
Clicking "Next" brings me to the "Printing Options" dialog where I have a
drop down list labeled "What printer do you want to use?". In this drop
down list, I have an entry named "Fax". Do you have this entry in your drop
down list? If you do not, under "Start =Printers and Faxes", do you have a
printer labeled "Fax"?

Hi, HAL,

Sorry for late response.

To make your problem clear, could you tell me what's new to you in my
suggestion.
Maybe you found some settings were not done yet before my suggestion.

And also tell me whether FAX monitor window popped up after you
PRINT that doc file to FAX, then what error was shown in FAX monitor
window.
These are needed for trouble shoot.

Go to http://www.congress.org/congressorg/...ory/congdir.tt
and pull up some fax numbers for testing.

You're already paying for it....

Many pizza and other take-out places (especially, I would guess, in
SoCal), accept orders via fax. Fax an order then confirm by phone.

Hi Hal,

."Send FAX WIZARD opens--Click
next Window for "recipient opms.
I fill in name and fax number,3109445920,
my cell #.
Next cover page,
click schedule to send,used 4:10PM today. Priority=normal,
click next= completing send fax wizard opens, says to send fax,
click finish

Checking your step, I still can not understand what you put into
blank box of selectiong recipent page;

next Window for "recipient opms.
I fill in name and fax number,3109445920,
my cell #.

You must fill the recipient name in uppder box and his or her
telephone number in lower box.
"my cell #" has nothing to do with this step!!
You are sending it to the recipient FAX number.

Then I opened
"Fax Console" outbox nothing shown, open FAX monitor nothing shown

As you specified the time to send FAX, opening FAX console
will not show the item in sent item box but should in outbox tray
below of received tray.
Outbox means the box below of received box .

If you cannot find ANY item in all box of FAX console, FAX console
has no link with FAX listed along with your epson printer in "Printer and
FAX" .

What status is shown for FAX in "Printer and FAX" ?
Your epson printer status is shown as "ready" I believe,
then your FAX must be shown as "Ready" in "Printer and FAX" if
you use FAX service.

As your PC is running Windows XP, have you installed "FAX service" in
Start-Control Panel-Add Remove Program-Add Remove Windows Component?
This makes "FAX" appeared in Start-"Printer and FAX", as you can
noticed
it
besides your normal printer.

Now you MUST select your phone line type "PULSE" or "TONE" in
Start-Control
Panel-"Telephone and Modem Option" - Dial Information TAB as well as
Country
and your City code or local area code.

Ok then you are ready to go to "FAX console" to configure FAX service
with
"FAX configuration wizard for "Enable Send" and "Enable Receive."
As to TSID & CSID box, put any name you like for the identification of
your
PC-FAX to communicate with other FAX machines.

Did you do all above ?

Then back to Microsoft Word, open .doc file containing scanned image
with
your scanner following File-Open of Word menu.
Now you are ready to PRINT the document following File-Print of Word
menu
selecting "FAX" in Printer Name Drop Down Box of print pop-up window
of
Word.

Printing the document to "FAX" will pop up "FAX sending wizard"
Recipient's FAX number you must enter to send your Doc.

How it goes ?
