Default video capture

Have a conexant 2880 video capture card. When I try to capture video with it
the
computer freezes. No event errors, nothing but mouse moves. Have to do a
cold start to get the computer started again. Web cam will capture fine with
it. Checked card drivers and also made sure of correct settings (mpeg
settings, audio settings, and correct frame rates) Removed and reinstalled
card and drivers, with no apparent change in problem.
Anyone have any suggestions?
