W7 Home Premium for refurbished PC's
Hi all,
Have just been wading through the MS COA / Licensing agreements for refurbished PC's, having spotted vendors on ebay selling seemingly legit W7 Hologram discs for re/installing W7 Home Premium to refurbished PC's, and as if to comply with aforementioned rules, these vendors are offering the "uneconomical for repair" Laptop, (typically "collection only"). If I've interpreted my thrilling read of the MS refurbisher licensing texts correctly, the "for installation into a refurbished" PC MS holographic disc is intended only for installing W7 into a refurbished PC that has the same make and model of motherboard as originally sold, and the CPU must not be upgraded ! Yet, a plethora of vendors on ebay are flaunting the feature that the MS W7 for refurbished PC's will install on any PC ! So, it seems that, strictly speaking, the "for refurbished" PC's W7 holograph version, if installed into a PC with a CPU and motherboard signature that is different to that collected by MS, when that COA was activated, could end people up with the MS "illegal version" message ? :-) regards, Richard |

W7 Home Premium for refurbished PC's
A few years back, "we" decided that it was too much trouble to hassle
with all the different variations of win licensing and refurbished P/Cs. The end result was that each customer gets to buy (or supply) a new retail copy or valid retail / corporate key. A standard unkeyed retail version may be installed if the customer wants to supply and install the key themselves. On request, we would supply generic OEM versions, provided that the customer had valid keys for that version. I don't even want to get into the "upgrade" variations! If our preferences were/are followed, the ultimate end result is a P/C with win pro installed. Question for OP. What do you mean by "holograph"? Probably the right word is "hologram". Many Microsoft product stickers that I've seen have a holographic patch on them, like the one that might be near the corner of your credit card. I did a quick look around he Laptop: a 2mm wide strip that I can't read even with a loupe Netbook: no hologram MS Office 2003: no hologram on the sticker, but the entire label of the CD is a hologram Windows 7 Home Premium: 2mm strip on the sticker, and the outer 2cm of the CD is a hologram Windows 7 Pro: none on the sticker, but one around the hub of the CD. -- Gene E.
