Default Defrag stops at 20%

I start my computer in Safe Mode and then run Defrag but after about two
hours it stops at the 20% point. The program is not locked up as I can
select Stop and it will terminate normally. Is there a way to find out why
it is stopping. It makes me nervous stopping Defrag when it has not
completed its job. I worry that it could munge the files system up. I ran
error check and everything was ok but I still worry about running Defrag
when it doesn't complete its job.

So how long are you running defrag? An hours, many hours, or a day?
Mine takes sometimes around 4 hours, or more. Getting stuck is not
necessarily a problem. Could be it is working on just one very huge
file so obviously the count won't increase since it is based on the
fragment count. Could be it is working on defragging the free space to
make room enough for a huge fragment from a large file. Start it before
going to bed and then check on it when you wake up (many hours later).
