Default Not Responding errors

According to my research ImageDB.dff is an ACDsee file containing
Thumbnals.

What version of ACDsee are you using?

I found some ACDsee User Manuals. You can remove unwanted Thumbnails. Do
you ever do this?

I am not sure what affect Hibernate has on releasing memory. It may not
release memory as Shutdown and Restart does. Hibernate dumps the whole
of what is held in RAM to the hard disk. At least that is my present
understanding of the process.

I am not sure if I have the latest Adobe Photoshop updates or not. I
will look into that as well.

I don't leave the computer on 24/7 per say. When not in use, I
usually have it in Hibernate mode. I do reboot it about once a week
or when updates require it or when I feel it necessary. Is putting
it in hibernate a bad thing. Would it be better to turn it off or
just leave it on instead?

I would say ACDsee is the most used photo progam on my pc. It's what
I use to view any and all pictures and I frequently do so.

I'll report back tomorrow with more details.

There seems to be only one obvious problem arising out of the
information you have provided. ImageDB.ddf is a colossal file and is
multi-fragmented. You need to defragment it. The sheer size is most
likely the problem but to make sure that the file is not in use I
would run Disk Defragmenter in Safe Mode. Running the programme more
than once, perhaps as many as three times to get a result. However,
before running Disk Defragmenter you should clean up the drive.

It is likely that an allocation of 12% has been made to System
Restore on your C partition which is over generous. I would reduce
it to 700 mb. Right click your My Computer icon on the Desktop and
select System Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select
Settings but this time find the slider and drag it to the left until
it reads 700 mb and exit. When you get to the Settings screen click
on Apply and OK and exit.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp
to Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Does ImageDB.ddf still appear in the Most fragmented files list?

I looked at the system requirements fpr ACDSee 4 and Adobe Photoshop
7. They do seem to be quite modest. Adobe Photoshop 7 has been
updated a number of times. Do you have the latest update?

Do you leave the computer on 24/7?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?
Can you provide figures immediately after starting your computer
anlso after you have started your favourite photographic program and
doing what ever you do with program.

I hope all of that makes sense to you. Let me know if you can
discern anything from it which might be causing my problem.

Thanks.

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon (
copy to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Also do a full
surface scan with HD Tune.

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report
and click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My
Documents Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk
Defragmenter as it is more informative.

Thanks for the info abot the ImageDB.dff. I have never removed unwanted
thumbnails. I don't even know which thumbnails it's referring to. I mean,
what would make some thumbnails unwanted and not others? Do you have a link
to the ACDsee Manuals so I can take a look? I am running version 4.0.2.0664.

Back to the information you asked me to get yesterday.

I changed the System Restore to 845MB/3% because 700MB wasn't an option.

I ran a Degrag in Safe Mode and it was still unable to defrag the
ImageDB.dff file. Did you think if I ran it a couple of more times in Safe
Mode that it would help? I was unclear about that.

From Task Manager:

On a reboot: Commit - Total = 263320 (it kept changing slightly), Limit =
1920644, Peak = 301036

After starting ACDsee: Commit - Total 321480 (again kept changing), Limit =
1920649, Peak = 364008.

Thanks again!

When I download from my camera to my computer I place the files in an As
Imported folder. When I edit or crop the photos I place the files in an
As amended folder. If you I used Thumbnail I would have two thumbs when
only one might be needed. Some photos when you download can be so like
another that they are not worth keeping. Doesn't the same apply to
thumbnails as to the files?

User guides
http://www.acdsee.com/support/traini...erguides/index

Page 71 may be of interest.

Resizing System Restore to 845 mb is fine. Did you also do this before
running Disk Defragmenter. "Also select Start, All Programs,
accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore
and remove all but the latest SystemRestore point."?

The Commit Charge figures are presently pointing to a problem with
ACDSee

In Task Manager what processes are showing the largest Mem Usage and
Peak Mem Usage on the Prosses tab. You may need to add these columns to
those presently displayed -View, Select Columns.

ImageDB.dff file. Did you think if I ran it a couple of more times
in Safe Mode that it would help? I was unclear about that.

From Task Manager:

On a reboot: Commit - Total = 263320 (it kept changing slightly),
Limit = 1920644, Peak = 301036

After starting ACDsee: Commit - Total 321480 (again kept changing),
Limit = 1920649, Peak = 364008.

Thanks again!

According to my research ImageDB.dff is an ACDsee file containing
Thumbnals.

What version of ACDsee are you using?

I found some ACDsee User Manuals. You can remove unwanted
Thumbnails. Do you ever do this?

I am not sure what affect Hibernate has on releasing memory. It may
not release memory as Shutdown and Restart does. Hibernate dumps the
whole of what is held in RAM to the hard disk. At least that is my
present understanding of the process.

As I mentioned, in the past I have defragmented and it's always
defragmented without issue or errors so I was surprised to see that
today. Not sure what the ImageDB.dff file is. I will try your
suggestions and report back.

I am not sure if I have the latest Adobe Photoshop updates or not.
I will look into that as well.

It's
what I use to view any and all pictures and I frequently do so.

I'll report back tomorrow with more details.

Thanks again for your assistance.

There seems to be only one obvious problem arising out of the
information you have provided. ImageDB.ddf is a colossal file and
is multi-fragmented. You need to defragment it. The sheer size is
most likely the problem but to make sure that the file is not in
use I would run Disk Defragmenter in Safe Mode. Running the
programme more than once, perhaps as many as three times to get a
result. However, before running Disk Defragmenter you should clean
up the drive.

It is likely that an allocation of 12% has been made to System
Restore on your C partition which is over generous. I would reduce
it to 700 mb. Right click your My Computer icon on the Desktop and
select System Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select
Settings but this time find the slider and drag it to the left
until it reads 700 mb and exit. When you get to the Settings
screen click on Apply and OK and exit.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp
to Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk
CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and remove all but the
latest System Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Does ImageDB.ddf still appear in the Most fragmented files list?

I looked at the system requirements fpr ACDSee 4 and Adobe
Photoshop
7. They do seem to be quite modest. Adobe Photoshop 7 has been
updated a number of times. Do you have the latest update?

Do you leave the computer on 24/7?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the
Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit
and the Peak? Can you provide figures immediately after starting
your computer anlso after you have started your favourite
photographic program and doing what ever you do with program.

Default Not Responding errors

I had the same problem. I have Webroot spysweeper antivirus and antispyware
software. I did a custom scan including root kits and found a very critical
root kit problem that had to be quaratined and now my computer runs very
well. The other antivirus and antispyware programs did not catch this problem
at all. I have tried many of the most popular ones. Hopefully, this will
help if you get Webroot Spysweeper 5.5 software.

For some time now my computer seems to hang frequently thus displaying the
"Not Responding" error on the top blue bar. At first I thought it was
limited to my Internet Explorer, so I upgraded to IE 7 but it's still happens
and even more frequently. First the program hangs, then I left click on the
mouse and it displalys the "Not Responding" message, then I wait for it to
finally resond. It also happens with Office programs or basically any other
program installed.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2.

I have defraged my hard drive, run all SpyWare scans, cleaned up my cookies,
temporary internet files, system tray, my Anti-Virus is up-to-date, I have
installed all Microsoft updates, etc.

Anybody have any suggestions as this is becoming quite annoying.
