palemoon hangs on google news pages
I like palemoon but it hangs on google news pages with a not responding
message that eventually times out. https://news.google.com/topstories And then I press any link to view full coverage. But it hangs every time saying not responding for about 30 seconds. A script it doesn't like. Can I change the timeout to be 1 second instead of what it is of about 30 seconds? |

Never been to that web page before. A bit slow opening but otherwise fine. Pale Moon 28.9.1 -- Regards wasbit |

I was with a friend yesterday trying to access irs.gov. Every page was timing out. But if she hadn't repeatedly told it to continue she would have lost the process. IRS is busy these days. With the amazing amount of script pages are using now it's not surprising they time out. So if you set it to 1 second you may have a lot of broken pages. A much better idea than adjusting timeout is to use NoScript, or even disable script. Or you could go to a real news site, rather than visiting a spyware site that tries to guess what you'll want to read rather than printing the news. I just went to Google. I default to no script enabled and use NoScript to enable it if necessary. Their page loaded in about 1.5 seconds. The news headings appear just fine. But, of course, the whole page is just a scam. If I check the link to the story about allegations against Biden it's a Google link with a long ID key. If I click it, the link actually goes to New York magazine. So Google isn't actually doing anything to present news other than to track trends. Then they pretend it's their news. It's news without the journalism. And if you enable script you probably see new customized for you. Do you really want to support that sleaze when you could go to NYT, WashPo, NPR, BBC, CNN, etc? (NYT is another one that will work much better if you disable script.) On the bright side, Australia just announced that Google and FB will have to pay for news they hijack. And the EU has been ding something similar, I think. So Google News may be on borrowed time. |

As a tongue-in-cheek reply, I changed the timeout to about 1 second by using the 'Brave' browser. |
