"Network cable unplugged"
I have two LANs - ethernet and Bluetooth - which are available to my system,
but neither of which are used because I communicate to my router via Wireless. However, whatever settings I use, the LAN icons appear with a red cross and the bubble "Network cable unplugged". In Properties, neither box is ticked to show these icons - whether connected or with poor connectivity. How do I get rid of these icons and bubble?

Right click one of them in the tray, select open network connections, then

You can drag links of the Connection (from the manage connection screen that can be reached by clicking in the entry at the top left side of the Network center) to the desktop. if I should wish to use them at some time in the future? Yap, that was the purpose of my suggestion above Right click on the connection Icon and it can be Disabled or Enabled as needed in 5 sec.
