Default Disable Internet Explorer 11

I want to disable Internet Explorer 11. I have done everything that
Microsoft says you have to do to disable IE 11. Which really isn't that
much.
First I made Firefox the default browser. Didn't work as IE kept opening
up when links were clicked, even if they were clicked in Firefox. So I
decided to disable IE. Microsoft says that if you disable IE 11 then
nothing can access it as certain files are deleted so IE cannot run. So
I went to Program and FeaturesTurn Windows Features on or offDefault
ProgramsSet Associationsthen I unchecked IE 11. Supposedly that is
all you have to do. I even restarted the computer, didn't have to. In
File Associations I changed all IE entries to Firefox. When I made these
changes all IE icons were changed to FF.
Now I start FF click a link and IE starts up. How? Supposedly files have
been deleted. I used search in Windows Explorer looking for IE's .exe
file and it is not found. I look thru the part of the file system that I
can see and I can't find IE's .exe file .So how is IE starting up?
Supposedly if you disable IE 11 certain files are deleted and if you
reenable IE 11 Windows has to download the deleted files. So if those
files are gone how is IE running?
Any solution?

Windows Update needs and uses IE.
Other application software uses IE's files to print.

Probably not a good idea to tamper further.

Well, in theory, there is a windows "flavor" that does not have IE. That
said, I've no experience with it.

That's not what I want. I want a Windows that works the way I want it to
and the way Microsoft says it will.

Disabling IE will defeat the latter.

No it wont . And Microsoft says you can do it and that it wont cripple
Windows. Do you really think that MS would give you that option and make
it so easy to do and then tell you how to do it if it would if it would
cripple Windows? At Microsoft.com MS states that Windows will run just
fine if you disable IE. As the files that Windows needs are not hidden
from Windows but the files that enable IE to run will be. This disable
IE feature has been in Windows since XP. Go to Microsoft.com and search
for this information yourself if you believe otherwise.
I gave to links to MS for this information in an earlier post.

No quite. In Europe, Microsoft is required to "inform" windows users
that there are other browsers they can use. The system itself comes
with IE but users are required to install a patch so that they get
constant messages informing them of other browsers. In my opinion a
complete and utter stupid idea from the EU commission trying to enforce
their own version of anti-trust rules on Microsoft.

I don't want to be informed of other browsers; I know all of them or at
least most of them but I don't like any of them except FF to ma certain
extent until they start advertising in the browsers from next year. FF
is planning something like that.

Disabling IE 11 in 8.1 only gets rid of or hides, depends on where you
go which terminology is used, the files that IE needs to startup/run. The
files that other application software needs. ie. Windows Update, is
still there. Go to Microsoft.com and search for disabling/uninstalling,
you can search for either, IE 11 if you don't believe me.

Nah, I think I let you provide an official MSFT link (not third party)
that actually states how to disable IE.

I already did. In fact I gave two of them. Here; vutum9hinging

Then go there and find out for yourself. Yes I did look at several third
party sites but I did nothing until I confirmed it at Microsoft.com. And
from what the first link stated the disabling of IE has been an option
since XP. So the rumor that you couldn't do it all these past years was
just rumors and lies to keep people using IE.
But you can't uninstall IE. Windows wont let you easily. You would have
to do it manually and then you would break Windows.

I'm not sure what you got going on, but I simply installed Google
Chrome, and made it default and everything points to Chrome except those
hard coded IE links. Windows update goes to IE, at least from desktop
that is. You can do windows updates from the metro windows of from
settings in the charm bar. Some have reported IE is needed, I'm not
sure of that.

My system is 8.1 with that last update 1 with basically no tweaks. A
recent reload of the system (4 weeks ago). and I rarely see IE but its
there!

I don't want links I click to open IE. I don't use it either but I want
more than just to rarely see it. If 8.1 would respect my wishes, as
Microsoft says it will, I would be satisfied with not disabling it.
In XP I set Firefox as the default and those same links opened in fire
fox so they are not hard coded for IE.

The first link does. The article is clearly titled "How to turn
