Default Dowloading binary files.

When downloading images from a site such as Flickr, are these larger
than the same image downloaded as a binary from a newsgroup?

AFAIK: Flickr does not lower the image quality so the file size should
remain the same. They undoubtedly have some limit though.

I assumed he was talking about transfer size, not final file size. The same
binary object downloaded either way will land on the hard drive with exactly
the same footprint. During the download, however, the file will be bigger
from the newsgroup because it needed to be encoded as a 7-bit object in
order to be stored there. Usenet uses the 8th bit as a control bit.

I'd say it was just about right, like I mean who's that fussy.

Yeah but....

The newsgroup posting would have to be encoded, Base 64 or something
like that. That would increase the size of it. The image downloaded
from Flikr or other web sites would not need the encoding step.
