I assumed he was talking about transfer size, not final file size. The same binary object downloaded either way will land on the hard drive with exactly the same footprint. During the download, however, the file will be bigger from the newsgroup because it needed to be encoded as a 7-bit object in order to be stored there. Usenet uses the 8th bit as a control bit. |

The newsgroup posting would have to be encoded, Base 64 or something like that. That would increase the size of it.
