Default How do I rid myself of Windows Messenger properly

One of the first things I did when I got this new computer of mine was
uninstall windows messenger as it is not something I use, also I'm one of
these that hates seeing unnecessary icons on my toolbar.

Well I noticed today while looking over my zone alarm log that messenger
comes up many many many times under the outgoing column. Now I have it set
so that it blocks messenger from doing anything, but I would like to know
how I shut messenger up permanently. I have checked and it is still
un-installed, yet why is it trying to connect with something on the net?

Please can someone help. I just hate programs that don't do as I want them
too

Many thanks
Pip
