Default No more full screen crap?

Good day.

For those who do have Win10Tp, is Microsoft DONE with annoying
full-screen "apps" on the desktop? Like the full-screen picture viewer,
the full-screen control panel, etc?

I recently had to install 8.1 @ work, and having to Alt-F4 every time I
double-click a bitmap is really annoying, not to mention that I *need*
to be able to see the bitmap AND some other window at the same time,
which I can no longer do (hello mspaint, here we come)...

Thank you.
Best Regards,

If you support it, you might want to learn how to use it. Modern apps
don't have to be full screen, they can do a 50/50 split.

You can also use classic desktop apps, or adjust your file associations
to always open classic desktop versions of apps rather than using the
Modern app version.

There is also a hardware dependency, as to what screen options
are available. My 1280x1024 screen doesn't have the same (snap)
options as your larger screen does. And users with two monitors
get more options than the rest of us.

How do I make it go 50/50 once I'm in full-screen?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

All of that can be changed. You can set default programs, you can set the size for most programs.
Browser for example, if you set the screen size then hit file exit, it will remember the setting. Hitting the X does
not. Right click a bitmap and say open with and pick the program of choice or browse and check the default box, done.
If it's a new install of windows when you open a file a little popup should pop up in the upper right corner saying
something like "there are other programs that open this file type" and you can click there to pick another one.

It just takes time, MS did not set the right defaults for everyone. But you can.

Have you done your test install yet ?

Preferably, not on a computer with important files on it or anything.
Don't install over top of your Win8.

*******

I just checked a Win10 Metro application, and ugh, pretty funny.
Yes, when I clicked it, it took the whole screen. Up in
the right hand corner, it has the box icon, to make it
resize to non-full-screen. So I can "escape" without Alt-F4.

The one I was using was some "Music" application, and it will
allow you to resize the window width. But the height can't be
changed much at all. So while it doesn't occupy the whole
screen, it comes pretty close to filling the whole thing.
Effectively, you can "peel back" some screen area to do other
work, by making the Music App less wide. But it's not like the
contents of the window resize - the contents don't scale
so you get tiny fonts and tiny controls. Whatever base size
the application designer wants, stays put. When you attempt to make
the window small enough, some text appears in the window saying
it wants to be wider.

So it's still a waste of screen real estate. Compare that
Music App with the giant graphic in it, versus say a copy
of WinAmp. I think I'll be picking the WinAmp. It's either that,
or I'll have to run out and buy one of those new 4K screens :-)
