32G Flash Voyager USB Pen
Been using it for quite a while.
On my Win 7 Pro PC I just now formatted it NTFS and wrote a few
folders/files to it. All seemed well.

On my Win XP Pro laptop is does not recognise it and says it is
corrupted. Tries several USB ports just in case but no luck.
One of my USB ports on the laptop is flaky.

I notice that Win XP does not offer to format NTFS.

Why?
What can I do to use the Flash most efficiently between both PCs?
Yes, I may have files 4G so NTFS (best) or exFat is it

Your brain size is as small as your penis. Win XP DOES "offer to format
NTFS" if you had a big cock and bigger brain.

Uwe has some good info.

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbstick_e.html

Removable drive = RMB bit set, a.k.a most flash sticks.

Removable Drive Local Drive
GetDriveType returns DRIVE_REMOVABLE DRIVE_FIXED

Formatting with NTFS
'Optimize for quick removal' NO YES

Formatting with NTFS
'Optimize for performance' YES YES

Using Device Manager ( Start : Run : devmgmt.msc or equivalent),
you could try changing the policy button. Then open up the
formatter and try again. Choose Optimize for performance
and see what options the formatter offers.

Optimize for performance = XP set to cache.
Then Format (for Pen Flash) has NTFS option.
According to what I have Googled.

If Optimize for performance then Eject is required, so says Google.
Mine is not set for performance yet it does cache.
And NTFS is not an option for format the Pen Flash.

Why do I think it is cache-ing?
If I write files to the Pen then do a file compare there is no USB
Flash activity.
If I remove the USB Flash and re-insert and do a compare then the USB
Flash LED blinks and does a slower compare.

The application does an API flush buffer after writing so all data is
written to the USB Flash but still remains in memory.

I have not done it but Google found several articles and a YouTube
showing the Optimize For Performance option setup and getting the NTFS
option to appear in Format when trying to format a USB Flash.

Please don't reply to trolls. It accomplishes nothing, except making
them feel that they got through to you, which encourages them to
continue trolling. The best thing to do with a troll is to killfile
him. Or at least just ignore him.

To be Recognise by XP
Up to 2GB is only Fat16
Your 32GB is Fat32
100GB or more NTFS

Your Win 7 Pro PC Recognise it
Because it is a NTFS

Windows 3.1 Fat16
do not Recognise
Windows 98 Fat32

If your XP is in a Fat32
it will not Recognise a NTFS
