VLC Media Player
Maybe not a Windows 7 question per se, but I am using the program with Windows 7
Pro 64bit. Does anyone here use the free VLC Media Player? I've been using it for some time and have noticed that many if not most of the times I launch a video using the player, the video starts, then stops and becomes very pixelated after a few seconds, then settles in again and plays fine, unless I try to fast forward it. Then it pixelates again, very badly. Anyone else see this problem? I'm wondering why it happens. Thanks. |

I haven't seen that happen (been using VLC for years now), but the first thing I'd suggest is updating your video drivers. -- SC Tom |

Also, have you tried posting your question on the VLC forum? Thanks. I'm using v. 2.1.3 which is the latest version. I keep it updated. And yes, I posted on the forums and never got a reply. I also update all my drivers regularly using Advanced Driver Updater. At least once a month and this problem has been going on for a long time, through several driver updates. I use VLC 2.1.3 to listen to streaming radio broadcasts (primarily classical music from PBS stations). I have not tried using VLC for video. I notice that TV shows over Time Warner Cable (no over-the-air reception where I live) on a real TV (not a PC, tablet, etc) often exhibit pixilated video and audio. I also notice that dirty DVDs borrowed from our local public library are sometimes afflicted with pixilation until I carefully clean them. Are you sure the problem is within your computer and not from an external source? -- David E. Ross The Crimea is Putin's Sudetenland. The Ukraine will be Putin's Czechoslovakia. Do you have the problem with all video file extensions or just a particular one? Do you have the same problem when trying to open the file WMP (provided it's a file WPW can open)? If they play ok in WMP, then the problem is probably either with VLC or your graphics card. If they don't play ok in WMP, try downloading a codec pack. If they play ok in WMP but not VLC, then it's a VLC problem & as I suggested before, fiddle with the video (and output) settings. If deinterlacing is "on" or "automatic", swith it to off & give it a try. On the input & codecs side, try setting "hardware accelerated decoding to "disable". |

I'm wondering whether they released 2.1.4 and then withdrew it again. |
