Disk drives

I installed a card reader and it should show 4 disk drives, but it shows none.

If I use disk manager to see the drives, it will only allow me to install
one, and it does not show up in windows explorer, even though I assigned a
drive letter to it.

Ms suggested lower drive numbers which I tried, but no go. I put a usb
drive card on USB port, and disk mgr recognizes drive, but still no letter in
explorer or my coumuter.

Windows XP Pro with SP2
Suggestions?
