Does a Tor for all ports exist for Windows?
Does a free Tor for all ports easy installation exist for Windows?
I found and tried a free Tor-for-all-ports for Android: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbot It was so easy to install and use that it emboldened me to try to install it on Windows, but I can't find Orbot for Windows. Maybe it has another name on Windows? Note that I have been using the tor browser bundle, which "is" a free and easy browser on Windows, but it's only useful mainly for the web ports. I want to use it for nntp ports, and any other ports as needed. There are lots of free VPN sites which work for all ports, but that's not what the question is because VPN and Tor are two different things. I'm sure with lots of effort, Tor can be set up from scratch for all ports on Windows (which includes programs and protocols which I don't really understand such as socks, polipo, vidalia, etc.). But this question is not about setting up Tor for all ports on Windows from scratch (I guess, it will be if there is no other way!). This question is only asking if an easy free installation of Tor-for-all-ports exists for Windows like it does already exist for Android. Does a free Tor for all ports GUI exist for Windows? What is the name of that program so that I can try it out? |

If you're transferring a 10MB file from one PC to the other, you don't want to wait half-an-hour while it goes through your $20 a month ADSL connection. That transfer would also impact your other TOR activities. _______ My LAN ---------/ Tor \ PC #1 | Net | | Work | My LAN ---------\_______/ PC #2 When you use something like TOR Browser, then that's a specific solution for a specific problem, going out on a particular port. Think of all sorts of problems communicating with Internet devices, that need a TOR treatment. This sort of thing makes sense. Or doing movie downloads perhaps, a TOR network is a good way to do that. _______ My LAN --------/ Tor \--- Dark Net, TorBrowser --- Servers etc PC #1 | Net | | Work | \_______/ Just like selective use of VPNs makes more practical sense than blanket use of VPNs. You don't want all your LAN traffic to go through the VPN. You want your LAN traffic to be routed locally, not have public IP addresses slapped on it as the destination, then hairpin turn and return. Anyone with the skill to write such an application, also has the skill to do the traffic analysis. Paul |

I dunno why one would wanna use it... you're kidding, right? Tor has U.S. gummint support for one main reason: to ensure that people in countries (like China) where the intarweb is filtered can STILL engage in activities that their gummints might not like, such as freedom of speech. It's a 'national interest' thing to promote freedom worldwide, though I expect Mrs. Clinton might not approve if SHE is elected... So yeah, using the Tor network to avoid being TRACKED (by ads, criminals, whatever), or to avoid political oppression - that would be TWO reasons to use it. -- your story is so touching, but it sounds just like a lie "Straighten up and fly right" |
