That $windows.~bt folder
Is it normal to have this keep reappearing on Windows 10? I tried
searching for information about this, but the only things I can find are to do with it appearing in Win 7, and how to get rid of it in Win 10. I've removed it several times in the disk cleanup tool, but it keeps coming back. It's over 4GB in size, so not a trivial waste of space, and as it reappears, it uses a LOT of bandwidth. Is it the source for add/remove components? |

That should be about that big, as it's a "new" OS, resetting all settings etc... -- ----------------------------------------------------- Thomas Wendell Helsinki, Finland Translation to/from FI/SWE not always accurate ----------------------------------------------------- |

Windows update tells me that v1607 is available, and a restart has scheduled, but since I leave it going all the time, perhaps it's waiting till there's nothing running? I think I'll restart it today and see what happens. Funny thing is, it's been doing this for weeks, and I've definitely restarted it during that time. |

Is it the source for add/remove components? If it is a left over part of an update or upgrade, run Disk Cleanup from the properties on the disk on which it resides. After it runs through the first time click Clean System Files. This should remove all old install files when you click OK. If that does not work look in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. If there are many files remove them all. If you check on line it says remove everything including the DataStore files, but I could not and it worked any way. After cleaning SoftwareDistribution I was able to download and install updates that hung for what ever reason. Also don't worry about causing problem. Windows recreates the folders in SoftwareDistribution |

Make a backup image first, while you have a good PC. I just had a friend yell "help" last night. His wife's PC came up with a black screen, no menu or desktop icons etc. etc etc. Some of the typical reports I've heard here on the newsgroups. It even happened to me in similar fashion. It doesn't happen on every machine, as my main squeeze worked fine. No real rationale for why some work and others don't. I do turn off A/V software though. |

Is it the source for add/remove components? For the release stream, there are three versions. 10240 Initial 10586 Nov2015 14393 July2016__Anniversary_Edition In the run box, you can use "winver" to bring up a dialog which displays the major and minor version. Win10 is probably in the process of doing an OS Upgrade install, taking you from 10586 to 14393. In the Settings section that has Windows Update in it, you can check the update history, to see if it's been trying to install or not. Using the make and model of computing device, you can see how other Win10 users are being treated. Maybe other people who own your device, see similar issues. For example, Tablet users didn't receive the update right away, and it took months to show up. That's because the details of tablet installation are different, and space is at a premium. A tablet install may ask you to install a blank USB flash key, to be used as a storage device. The Win10 install might be 10-11GB or so, so if offering a USB key, you'd want to use one which is larger than 8GB at least. I don't own a tablet, so haven't seen this behavior first-hand. The installer is quite tolerant of space issues. My install said something about "needs 98GB to do every bit of the install". But it will cheat on the size of the hiberfil.sys if it doesn't have the space for it, so it will agree to wedge in an install with less space than the recommended amount at the beginning of the install. Paul I have found the best way to install the AE is use the MediaCreationTool. It was the only way that I could install Windows 10 on my 32gb disk tablet. I have also used it to install problem updates. |

But now it's becoming MORE OBVIOUS. Does George Soros (or Micro-shaft) PAY YOU to create chaos, like *PAID* anti-trump activists creating problems at Trump rallies, or 'rent-a-mob' astroturfing "protesters"? -- your story is so touching, but it sounds just like a lie "Straighten up and fly right" |
