How to get rid of the UA string in the default SRWare Iron search URL?
When I the SRWare Iron address bar search feature, and when I search using
DuckDuckGo as the search engine by default, the URL for "keyword1 keyword2" becomes: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=keyword1+k...&t=ironbrowser Why should I give away to DuckDuckGo my browser, especially when the User Agent string is randomly set to something else with a UA switcher? Where does the "&t=ironbrowser" come from. And more importantly: How can I get rid of it? --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |

Are you sure the above link, isn't pulled in dynamically from https://iron.start.me/us when the browser starts ? Visit duckduckgo the "normal" way, bookmark it, or do something similar, to bypass what you're seeing. There is a separate setting for the useragent, where the browser is identified as "iron". And that could well be compiled into one of the DLLs or something. Branding on browsers is usually sprinkled all over the place. But some of it could be dynamic, and maybe if you change the start page, there will be a different result. Paul |

To get rid of it, edit the DuckDuckGo search engine's URL from the browser setting. Look for Search Engine setting or try going to below URL. chrome://settings/searchEngines If editing the DuckDuckGo search engine's URL is not allowed, you'll have to delete that search engine and readd it later. To readd DuckDuckGo search engine into the browser, go to DuckDuckGo front page. Right-click on the inputbox on that page, then choose "Add as search engine". |

To readd DuckDuckGo search engine into the browser, go to DuckDuckGo front page. Right-click on the inputbox on that page, then choose "Add as search engine". I see _exactly_ what you are talking about and you are correct! Going to "chrome://settings/searchEngines", this is what I found under "Default Search Settings:" Google | google.com_ | {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{googler iginalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStat s}{google:searchFieldtrialParameter}{google:search Client}{google:sourceId}{google:instantExtendedEna bledParameter}{google:contextualSearchVersion}ie={ inputEncoding} Iron SecureSearch | srware-search.com | http://srware-search.com/search.php?q=%s DuckDuckGo | duckduckgo.com https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&t=ironbrowser Ecosia | ecosia.org https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=%s&ref=iron So I see all I have to do is change FROM: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&t=ironbrowser TO: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s But as you warned, "chrome://settings/searchEngines" won't let me change it. I can right click on the setting to "Inspect" in a side window. Pressing "Control+F" I can search for "t=ironbrowser" which finds this line. (Note: Just searching for "t=" finds the same line.) div class="static-text" displaymode="static" tabindex="0"https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&t=ironbrowser/div Hitting the "F3" key shows there are no other instances of "t=" in the file. I can right click on that line to "Edit Text". And change that line to: div class="static-text" displaymode="static" tabindex="0"https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s/div This should work, but I can't seem to *save* the edited results since there is no "Save" button on this right-side-window console. I think this would work if I could find the *Save* button in the console editing window. Is there an edit button? --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |

news I think this would work if I could find the *Save* button in the console editing window. Is there an edit button? Searching for how to save the modified string: FROM: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&t=ironbrowser TO: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s I found this web page: https://drunkenachura.wordpress.com/...omium-browser/ Which seems to call this "thing" the "RLZ Tracking ID". Here's how they suggested changing the RLZ Tracking ID: Yes, I ramble. Here¢s how to do get rid of the Chrome RLZ Tracking ID: 1) Open Options Basic Stuff 2) Click the Manage button next to Default Search: 3) Click Add. Type whatever you like for Name and Keyword 4) In the URL box, paste this and click OK: {google:baseURL}search?&safe=off&num=100&q=%s 5) Select the new listing you just added and click Make Default 6) That should get rid of the tracking number. 7) It also turns off safe search 8) It also makes each search show 100 results instead of just 10. 9) If you like to use search suggestions, add this to the URL box somewhere after search? and before &q=%s: {google:acceptedSuggestion}{googleriginalQueryFo rSuggestion} That was written for Chrome and for Google Search, but I should be able to modify it for SRWare Iron and for DuckDuckGo search just as well. --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |
