Windows XP: Missing Authentication tab
Hello Namja/Steve, I am also expreiencing this problem.
XP SP3 has been installed to a number of machines and in every case but one, the Wired AutoConfig service is installed, I have a GPO which sets this service to Automatic and imports an XML profile to configure the Authentication tab properties. However on 1 PC, the Authentication tab is not present, as if the Wired AutoConfig service is not running, but it is. I think because the Authentication tab is not displayed, the profile is not being imported. No number of LAN Connection restarts, or machine reboots resolve the issue. There doesn't appear to be anything in the event logs for Wired AutoConfig errors. Namja, did you find a solution to this? Steve did you find any more information on this? Any information gratefully received. Thanks Laurence Barker "Steve Winograd [MS-MVP]" wrote: On Wed, 5 Aug 2009 02:19:02 -0700, namja wrote: Hi Steve I've disabled and enabled the wired network connection, but still the Authentication tab does not appeared. There is no errors from Wired AutoConfig, and the service is not terminating unexpectedly. When I plug in the LAN cable, the status is "Limited or No Connectivity". Is there any other suggestions for me to try out? Best regards Namja The only other thing I can think of is to reboot and verify that the service starts automatically and keeps running. Wired AutoConfig is new in Service Pack 3, and I don't have much experience with it. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com |

Windows XP: Missing Authentication tab
namja wrote on 08/04/2009 09:01 :
Hi The Authentication tab is missing in the properties dialog box of the wired network adapter in my laptop. I've already installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, and have also started the Wired AutoConfig service. Still, the authentication tab is missing for me, and as a result, I can't connect to the LAN. Can some expert help pls! Many thanks! I had same problem and found solution he http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950725/en-us?fr=1 (basically, in SP3 are wired connections managed differently. You must manually start DOT3SVC service and Authentication tab will be visible again) |
