Error while creating the volume shadow copy for backup
Hi,
That article is innacurate (http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-11-26.htm#3 ). A shadow copy is used (by a backup application) to read a stable version of any file on the volume, including open files. A failure while creating the shadow copy cannot be caused by having open files on your volume. Your specific error (800423f4) might be caused by the lack of free space on the boot volume (the volume that contains the operating system). In order to use the shadow copy feature, you need at least 50-100 Mb free space on this volume (depending on your size of the event log and registry). In addition, you need at least 120-150 Mb free space on an NTFS volume in your system, for every volume that you include in your backup. Please let me know if your problem persists after making sure that you have enough free space. Thanks, Adi This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. I am getting an error every time I am starting System State backup: "Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:800423f4 Aborting Backup." What is causing this problem and how can I fix it. Thank you in advance. |
