Weird behavior for ipconfig
I set up my network card to use a static IP address. But if I didn't turn on the router, `ipconfig /all` would not report the static address. `ping _static_IP_` also didn't work Weird.... -- @~@ Remain silent! Drink, Blink, Stretch! In which case I'd expect ipconfig to say "media disconnected" and not respond to ping to the NIC's address, even locally. Not weird at all. |

Not weird at all. ipconfig should have still reported that static IP address I agree with Andy that a "Media disconnected" message takes display priority over reporting the static IP, but I disagree in that as far as I can tell, the static IP is still available and can be pinged locally, even when the cable is disconnected. and pinging the static IP address should not have failed. It doesn't fail for me on 8.1 and 7. I haven't tried on 10. Note that I'm assuming that you directly pinged the static IP, and not a hostname that should resolve to the static IP. |
