Default Can not make changes to Word documents

In a directory I have some Word documents and some .reg files.

I can open and save the reg files with no problem.

However, when I open a Word document and save it, when I exit Word, I find the document unchanged with the original file date intact.

What could be the problem ?

It could be that it is saving it somewhere else.

It could be that it is saving it somewhere else.

"Save" *should* save it to the original file in the original directory,
but perhaps this is a "Save As" and it is being placed in the default
Documents directory...

It's none of the above.

Problems started after installation of Microsoft Office 2010.

Click "File" and see if there is a "Save as" function. If so, select it and
use
the correct location.

Do you think that Word only saves in select locations ? :-)

Are you looking at creation date instead of modified date?
Word saves files to where ever you set it up to save to.

I am looking at the file date that Explorer shows.

I followed the recommendation about installing Office 2000 first and then installed Office 2010.

Office 2010 doesn't like another version of Office on the same computer.

Many times when I try to open a doc file, Word 2010 goes thru a 2 minute process of Configuring.

To be frank, I am weary of these kind of antics.

The workaround for the configuring issue was already explained to you.
It has to be done for each version of Word installed, if the issue
appears.

And what, pray tell, is the column heading for the date that Explorer shows?

I hesitate to mention it, what with you being a programmer and all, but one
can change the columns that Explorer shows by right clicking on the title
bar. Note that the choices differ depending upon what Explorer is showing
in the right pane; i.e., choices will be different for drives than for
files/folders.

Believe me, Andy, everyone here knows that feeling.

You are right.

I am sure that some of the programmers feel guilty for what they write.
