Me in Norwich I *hate* mail questions, because you have to be so careful with the details. It sounds like you're using Internet Explorer to do a webmail account with some unknown providers. I'll pretend you have a hotmail.com account or something. I would check the proxy setting for the browser. In a home-user setting, proxy should not be set to Auto. It should be completely disabled, as home users do not typically use proxy software. That's more of an efficiency feature for corporations. You should also monitor the network icon, and see if it says "limited connectivity" for some number of minutes. In some cases, all web activity is not working, not just email. The problem can be firewall or .NET library not compiled, or other things. But taking your symptoms on face value, I would try adjusting the proxy first. "To change proxy server settings 1. Open Internet Explorer [Enabling the Menu Bar might help...] 2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. 3. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings. 4. Select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box. [Adjust the setting... for your situation. For a home user, switch it off entirely.] " Note that some adware tools, hijack the proxy settings, and the adware will reload the hijack values behind your back. So after a reboot, the problem returns. Remove the adware, to regain control. Paul |
