Default "Windows messenger has encountered a problem"......error

Hello all,

How do I stop that anoying(sic) error message from popping up? I went to
add/remove windows items and unchecked windows messenger. But I still get
that "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" Any suggestions!

I have windows xp pro and service pk 2. I don't use messenger.
