Skype
I'm using Windows 10 1809. Twice today, Skype showed up in the tray.
There doesn't seem to be an exit command in the menus - just a "hide". I knew Skype was installed, but I almost never use it. I can't find what is starting it up. If I open it and then kill it with task manager, it goes away but then comes back later. Any ideas why this started happening today? Pat |

Is this about the Skype *app* (i.e. the Metro/Modern/UWP/whatever style app) or the Skype *program*? If the latter, then: - While in Skype: - Settings (three horizontal dots) - General - turn off 'Automatically start Skype' switch. - On the Taskbar (assuming that's what yoy mean by "tray"): - Right-click on the Skype icon - Quit Skype. Now Skype is no longer running and will not be restarting on the next (Windows) login. |

Pat Check your Task Scheduler. Start : Run : control Pin the Control Panels on the task bar. Find the Task Scheduler and have a look around. Microsoft has a weird sense of humor. If you install some other Microsoft software, say "Outlook 2019" to make up an imaginary tool, they may want to show your Skype status as "available" when you enter Outlook. They may have integration features that detect your presence and make you visible to other Skype users. To support such behaviors, perhaps the new software you installed, added a Skype rule to keep it awake. Paul |

The older program works as you described and was already disabled set as you recommended. It was the metro app that was running this morning that I had to kill with task manager. Right clicking didn't offer "quit" but it had "hide". Neither version was listed in start-up as displayed by task manager. |

Paul Nothing obvious in task scheduler, but I'll pay attention to the time if it happens again and see if any task were scheduled at that time. (It hasn't happened since the 2nd time this morning). |

In article , says... Any ideas why this started happening today? Nope. An update perhaps? In any case, start Task Manager, click the Startup tab, and disable its startup. No updates since the 25th and those were two office related updates plus one "dot net" update. (I normally have updates enabled, but I was out of town earlier in the month and had updates temporarily disabled. I turned them back on on the 25th. That's why they weren't on patch Tuesday). Regarding the start-up tab, skype wasn't listed there. I think I'm going to uninstall both versions. I can always reinstall them if I need them in the future. Thanks, Pat |

Thanks, Pat Adding an update to my reply of a few minutes ago... When I went to uninstall the metro version of skype, it said it had been installed today (January 30th). Hmmm, I didn't do that and nothing was listed as having been updated today. |

Thanks to OneDrive support, Skype users can now send Office documents, PDFs or any of the other 300 file types supported by OneDrive. To use the feature, simply sign into Skype with the same Microsoft account associated with OneDrive. Then open the chat you’d like to send a file to, tap the + button in the bottom left corner and select OneDrive. " And of course, from time to time, OneDrive updates have been extra aggressive like that too. I've had that happen even on Win10 setups that aren't using an MSA. The feature above, appears here to have been a plugin of some sort. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/1...kype_onedrive/ Paul |
