OK, I finally got the password for the original administrator account
and was able to download. I also found out that the new accounts I
made/created were still in standard, and not administrator! I had to
edit their types. W8 sure changed on how to make accounts too. Now, I am
currently SLOWLY downloading W8.1 up(grade/date) from MS App Store.

Boo. It failed overnight. I saw it idling at a boot up(?) with
diagnostic stuff.

Usually this happens if the computer goes to sleep during the process
or, even worse, hibernates. I get the impression this might have been
the case.

LOL, I like your style.

I have a friend who is a gamer and he always needs to get the best
possible systems. He spends a small fortune to keep up with the latest
games.

Because I set my own machines up with absolutely no visual effects of
any type...can get by using surplus parts with little or no cost.

I do a lot of photography, but even then just do minor editing.

Because my "gamer" friend will occasionally run into a problem he can't
solve , he calls me to work on his machine. One day ...out of curiosity,
I had him show me one of the games.

Yep there were all kinds of video effects, bells and whistles and fairly
detailed graphics...but basically the same old DOS games I'd seen
many years ago.

There's no doubt in my mind that there's little innovation in games
nowadays, but I'm not sure I would go back all the way to old DOS games.
Assassin's Creed was pretty innovative to say the least.

Basically all I saw was some gladiator-type going after a monster.

The only game I play is Tetris...either from BOWEP or a slightly older
variety.

Obviously, you're not going to be the type to spend 1,500$ on a new
gaming laptop the way I would.

I have never built an all-new machine for myself /ever/.

My wife is the one who gets the news stuff.

I just built her a quad core machine with 16 gigs of RAM

New mobo/cpu new RAM new HD

all the rest I had: Total cost $360

BTW: For Tetris, even a 286 will work...it's a 16 bit game.

Oh I don't know about that. I have three Alienware laptops (they call
them desktop replacements) which I use for games. Each machine has two
Nvidia video cards to keep up with the intense graphics. And I have seen
games that are really advanced. I know next to nothing about modern game
consoles, but the youtube videos and advertizements look like they are
very good too.

Btw, those Alienware machines I have are like portable toasters. They
blow the hot air out the back and it feels like holding your hand in
front of a hair drier. They have been known to melt the solder off of
the video cards. LOL

My wife has a home laptop as well as a work laptop. The home laptop is a
fairly powerful i5 which is completely unnecessary to own since she's
always on the other one. Mind you, we bought it before she changed jobs
and got a work laptop but I'm annoyed because I want to use it to
replace my aging 2010 Core i3.

I'm 34, turning 35 next month, and still play a lot of games but I'm
getting to the age where the only titles with truly interest me are
games like FIFA which don't push the envelope at all when it comes to
graphics. I'll still buy an Alienware laptop IN CASE some great game
comes out and I feel an absolute need to play it (which seems to happen
way too often, especially with Steam's constant sales) but I expect I'll
focus on FIFA the most... even though I'm not that good.

Thanks. That was confused me. I didn't know you had to set the

remember the option to set the account type during the new account
creation. :/

Exactly for me as a power user. I can see why they did that in terms of
security. OK, it makes sense now. Too bad, MS didn't do this earlier.

Hmm, I didn't see it asleep. Anyways, I saw it again when I came back to
check machine! Here is what I saw:

Language selection (picked English) screen.

Choose an option: "Trouble (Refresh or reset your PC, or use advanced
tools)" or "Turn off your PC".

I stopped here to see what you guys will say. I did not boot back to
desktop. Maybe I can get logs from here instead to see what's up?

Long ago suspected as being considered as a Win7 item but not deployed
since other 'MSFT Acccount' features ( MSFT's recommendation for user
account) that would be released or modified later for Win8 (Trusted
PC/devices, 2 step verification, etc.)

- i.e. Security is a package deal (Windows, Defender, IE11, and the cloud)

Well, they're on-screen buttons. I prefer a physical keyboard as well
but I have to admit that the word suggestions which appear over certain
letters of the on-screen keyboard on the Blackberry Z10 I own make
typing absolute heaven. The iPhone is a nifty little device though.
