Phantom disks
Win7pro Computer Management - Disk Management shows two removable
drives: L: and P: " "Epson Storage USB Device" (I have an Epson printer on USB) It says: "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk3(4)\DR9(10)" I find no way to remove them, whatever they are. Any ideas appreciated. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

I take it, that the dialog said that, after you clicked on the icon ? It shouldn't be asking for media, if the media is removable and media currently isn't present. But, expect it to whine if you click on it, and no media is actually in the drive. ******* You can see some examples of hiding drives here. The hiding being done here, is not a function of the media state. Whether the device has media inserted or not, it stays hidden. For an SD slot on a printer, this is probably a reasonable choice (as nobody wastes their time reading SD devices via their printer). https://www.vistax64.com/threads/dri...unhide.155795/ ******* It's also possible to make a drive invisible, until the moment media is inserted. In this example, people are using the "Hide Empty Drives" setting in File Explorer, and it doesn't work. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...a-78d820f6ea1a Uwe has a utility, with a "NoMediaNoLetter" setting. The second setting in the example, assigns drive letters to the card reader (your printer). It's a good idea to move fluff drives like that, so that they're not near either end of the letter space. Like R,S,T,U would be good choices. Letter Q is used by Office OneClick, and you probably shouldn't use that one (unless you never plan on using Office). http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html [Settings] NoMediaNoLetter=1 [DriveLetters] DeviceType=MSCR Letters=R,W I think that utility is free. There are probably $$$ ones out there too, for doing this. HTH, Paul |

They usually have very limited functionality, like they are read-only ports: you plug-in a USB flash drive that already has files on it. The printer may have a card reader (again with limited functionality). Since the printer is connected via USB, its card reader may be visible to the computer. Since you did not identify that actual printer (Epson is a brand, not a model), no one that uses that printer or reads the manual for you can tell you how those printer's USB ports are used. If you don't use the printer's USB ports, there may be a menu item in the printer to disable those USB ports. If the unidentified model of Epson printer has either USB ports (other than for the connection from it to the computer) or a memory card slot, what does the printer's manual say about using them and possibly disabling them? |

Phantom disks
I apologize. I've had my Epson XP-600 several years and didn't know
it had a USB and a card-reader slot. Never used them, never will. I use most of A to Z for partitions but *somehow* never saw their "L:" and "P:" until now (where have they been hiding?). I now have hidden them in Control Panel Folder Options. (Apparently they can now be used for new partitions.)
