It appears the Realtek is installed and working even though it's not. Is it possible that one of the millions of games this user has installed could have messed with the audio? Also, is it possible that this is a virus? Yes and Yes. I ask because I think it's wierd that: 1 Realtek provides a recording device but not a playback device 2 I cannot connect to Windows Update (more on that in the Windows Update newsgroup) 3 I could not update Norton Antivirus (which I've since removed from the machine per the client) 4 I cannot connect to Trend Micro's Housecall Let's try a reinstall one more time with a little more cleaning beforehand. You don't state how you removed NAV and Symantec apps are well known for the conglomeration they leave behind. Get the Norton Removal Tool he http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem2.htm and run it. When finished reboot to Safe Mode. Uninstall Any/All devices listed in Sound, Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager. Close out of Device Manager back to the desktop and open Explorer. Delete all of the contents in: C:\Documents and Settings\clients Username\Local Settings\Temp C:\Windows\Prefetch C:\Windows\Temp Close out of Explorer (Do Not Empty the Trash), reboot and reinstall the Realtek AC '97 drivers/codecs. Now I also must enquire as to the reason the client requested service? What was the client doing when the issue arose or just prior to it? Had the client installed/unistalled anything prior to the issue? When did the client first notice the issue? Did the client have any error messages or sudden shutdowns? Thanks for the help. no sound when downgrading from vista to xp
hi, would you mind telling me how you 'optimised your bios settings' to get the sound working.
I have the same problem, had a look in bios settings but there is nothing there about audio or something that can optimise the bios. did you used a special bios program? Help would be much appreciated regards Christian. Hp Pavillion dv6000 series(dv6810eg)downgraded from Vista to XP |

Generally you visit HP site and install the XP drivers, specific to your
sys, if available christian wrote in message ... hi, would you mind telling me how you 'optimised your bios settings' to get the sound working. Hp Pavillion dv6000 series(dv6810eg)downgraded from Vista to XP If the sound is provided from an on-board sound card, then there should be a setting in bios that will toggle it on or off. More likely, however, is that the required Windows XP sound driver files were not installed, perhaps along with other Windows XP utility files. If they are available from HP, then download and install them. |

Help would be much appreciated regards Christian. Hp Pavillion dv6000 series(dv6810eg)downgraded from Vista to XP I checked the HP site, and while there is a Vista sound driver for dv6810eg, there is no driver for WinXP listed. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...reg_R1002_USEN If you download the Conexant driver for Vista, run it (causing it to decompress into C:\swsetup\SP37732), you can have a look at the INF files, to get some idea what kind of device they're using. QH30EA.INI "Hermosa" -- VEN_14F1&DEV_5051 You can get one of the utilities like Everest Free Edition or Sisoftware Sandra, to list the hardware in the computer. Using a means like that, you may be able to verify the HDAudio chip is 14F1:5051 and some subsystem value. (Even the Subsystem value has to match, for the driver to install, as the mapping of hardware to jacks may be identified by the subsystem value.) Using your new-found search terms, you can find articles like this one. This addresses finding a driver for Hermosa. There is a download link to a private site, with a ZIP file on it, in this case. This would not be my preferred way to solve the problem. But at least you'd be getting closer. http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/...readId=1204621 That thread mentions installing "kb888111xpsp2", which is a UAA driver from Microsoft. That is one layer of the HDAudio stack. The device driver is a second component. The XP SP2 version, is presumably intended for installation *after* SP2 is installed. So it would be SP2, then UAA, then an appropriate Conexant driver. Anyway, the path to a solution, involves enumerating the hardware, and searching for like solutions found by HP owners. Paul |

no sound when downgrading from vista to xp
Thank you!!! I have an HP Pavilion Desktop PC model a6203w, and I also had
changed operating systems from Vista back to XP Professional because of all the problems I was having with Vista. Everything worked fine except no sound. I started checking around, found that HP has nothing, other people are having the same experience -- and after messing around unsuccessfully for ages I found your post and this link. It works! I now have sound and really - thanks so much. "smlunatick" wrote: On May 26, 5:43 pm, christian wrote: hi, would you mind telling me how you 'optimised your bios settings' to get the sound working.
