Well much as I like the newsreader part of this program and would like to
keep it I find it impossible to get Email to function. I have tried various ways to set up a mail account to no avail. I am using Shaw mail as my ISP and they were not able to help, They said I should use Webmail which I did and it works fine but then I have to use 2 Apps to do email and newsgroups. TB sets my SMTP port to 583 or some such and I am positive it is 25 which I have always used, If I get it sort of working it receives some emails but not all but will not send. Error is the mail server returned an invalid response +pop.shaw.mail.ca or some such. I have run out of patience with it and deleted it and reinstalled Windows Live Mail which works like a charm. By The Way I am running Windows * with classic shell and kind of like it as I get the hang of some of its features If anyone has A cure for Tbird I may try it again later on But I also read on WWW that they are no longer developing it so it may also become a dead-end. Regards, Rene |

Look at your own reply to your OP to see what I mean. Imagine trying to follow a thread with several people using WLM and a mix of top- and bottom-posting. Unreadable! You can set all the mail and news parameters within Thunderbird, including the SMTP port. I am using an old version of Thunderbird, so your display may be different, but on mine, if I scroll to the bottom of the account listing window, there is a selection for "Outgoing Server (SMTP)." Click on that and you will be presented with a list of your active SMTP servers and their parameters. Select the one you want to change and click on Edit. Fill in the server information and desired port. -- Crash I always thought Mensa was a Japanese import. |

In my opinion, it is the absolute *worst* e-mail/newsreader program ever released. Rene, you should be aware that if you use Windows 11 to post messages here and in other newsgroups, you will soon find yourself on the killfiles of many of us here. I don't killfile Windows Live Mail posters because they are trolls or because I don't want to read what they post; I killfile them because I *can not* read what they post, and trying to do so is just a waste of my time. -- Ken Blake |

Rene And then does not work right. Your post went right after sam's sig line so Agent deleted everything after it (as it should). Because your newsreader does not work right, that took out your post as well. I had to cancel, highlight your entire message, and try again to override this. Your choice of newsreaders is causing us trouble. Are you hoping to get any answers from the people you are antagonising? I have already killfiled another WLM user for that reason. Get a proper newsreader. I use Forte Agent which is a good one. Others will probably suggest other good ones. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko |

Hang on while I cobble this together: Ken I agree that WLM can't quote properly but what can I do if I can't get Mozilla to send Emails? I've tried every thing I know how to get it to work Okay. Bull. I use Thunderbird 2 to send and receive POP3/SMTP mail using three different servers. You just have to set it up properly. To copy my other post, which you seem to have ignored, "You can set all the mail and news parameters within Thunderbird, including the SMTP port. Hi Ken, I am using Tbird now for newsgroups for which it is marvelous and easy to read and follow ngs, My problem is I can't get Email to work, I have spent many hours on this and I guess I am getting frustrated. Not trying to PO anybody, so any help would be welcome. As you can see from my reply to Crash dummy I cannot edit SMTP port info, any Pointers appreciated as I don't want to have to use two different programs for mail and newsgroups. Regards, Rene |
