Windows Store won't start

Dear Windows Users,

I've this singularity which is annoying me with trouble to connect to
Windows Store. Do you know what is needed to regain the trust to surf
Windows Store app?

Could be any number of things, and some of them may have nothing to do
with your computer. I just opened the Store to see if it was a problem
with their site host, and it opened without problems.

I had this when I cloned my HDD C: partition to an SSD, booted to test,
then put back the HDD as a second drive.

Various problems occurred because part of the system was looking for
things on the D: drive (the old C: drive).

I accidentally cleared the Windows Store problem by logging into a new
local Admin user. After this user had gone through Store setup then it
worked in my original user.

I had further issues with Networking, and so went and used Storage Manager
to hide the D: partition from Windows and then rebooted.

All fine now, but I haven't yet reinstated the D: drive.

I was struggling because Apps wouldn't launch, and the App Store wouldn't
launch either.

Didn't like the option to Refresh offered automatically (far too brutal -
see http://www.howtogeek.com/132428/ever...to-know-about-
refreshing-and-resetting-your-windows-8-pc/ because it trashes all your
desktop programs, and I very rarely use an App. In fact, I thing the Adobe
PDF reader is the only one).

So first I made sure I had an up to date backup.

Then I followed through the linky goodness and ran "SFC /SCANNOW" which
reported corruptions it could not fix.

Ran "Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" which reported "Component
store corruption was repaired".

Sounding promising :-)

As instructed, I reran "SFC /SCANNOW" which still complained.

As a further check I ran

"Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" which reported no problem
found.

"Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" which reported no problem
found.

"Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" which reported "Component
store corruption was repaired".

Uh oh - looks like this may be a default message not a confirmation that
there was corruption and it was repaired. So perhaps there was something
cleared on the first run, and perhaps not.

Now the puzzling bit - when I went to restart I saw that there were
updates waiting to install. Being of a suspicious nature I went and
checked what they were, in case the dreaded 3035583 had sneaked back in,
but they seemed O.K.

I was pretty sure I had rebooted after the problem was identified (an
obvious move) so I checked dates and times. Searching for System Event
6005 gives you the time of system start up. Windows Update tells you when
updates were installed.

One from last reboot - 08/06/2016 16:50:42 (UK time format).

Patch install - 08/06/2016 18:17 (note that this must be the initial
application, not when it went from Pending to Succeeded.).

So the whole thing is confused by partially applied patches.

I just don't know if the partially applied patches caused the problem, or
if they confused "SFC /SCANNOW", or what.

I think that I applied the outstanding optional updates whilst thinking
about what do do to fix the App Store and if I even needed to. [I realised
it definitely needed fixing when some Control Panel tools such as User
Management also complained.] So there was probably a problem prior to the
patches and my tinkering may well have cleared it. I think.

However, if you are trying to fix this kind of problem, it is probably
good to double check there are no partially applied patches and to make
sure that you reboot at regular intervals.

I have been laughed at for sometime, but every time there has been an
Windows 8/8.1 update thing became strange. Some time this strangeness
occured when there was an update notification, other times after the
first reboot after the update. Some times this strangeness was with
the mouse, other times programs would not open properly. One program
that was frequently affected was Firefox, and when I tried to open it I
would get the message that the installation needed to be refreshed.
(Did that once, but after that just booted again and Firefox loaded
properly after the second reboot, with NO changes to Firefox)

I have found that the best way to solve the problem was to go to the
update page and make sure all the Windows updates were installed, then
reboot a couple of times to get the install to take.
