OK, first understand that a) not everyone who wants to help you has MS
Word installed (I don't); b) opening an attachment from a newsgroup on
a Windows machine would be stupid. I'm sure you mean well, but you're
not going to get good answers this way.

There are a few places you can look for updates to your audio:

1) If you have an OEM machine (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.) look on their
website for downloads for your particular computer model.

2) If this is a home-built or generic computer and you know your
motherboard mftr., you can look on their site.

3) Google for "Via AC '97 Audio drivers" and get about 223,000 links.

HTH,

Malke

Sorry, but I am new at this.
Any chance you can post the exact link please?
Which of the Vynil products is it--I mean there are many under the Win

JJ, Tx for your reply.
Can I get the link for this?
There are several products that seem to fall within the Vinyl definition and
I just don't know which is the right product.

This is what I installed:

"This readme file is to provide the information for installing and
uninstalling "Vinyl AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)" drivers.
VIA Technologies assumes no responsibility for any errors
in this document and no part of this document may be reproduced,
transmitted, or translated into any language, or in any form without
the prior written permission of VIA Technologies Incorporated.

Package Version 5.70d / ReadMe Version 5.70d
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
VT82C686A/VT82C686B/VT8231 (68) family south bridges are named as
"VIA AC'97 PCI Audio Device"
VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233B/VT8235/VT8237 (74) family south bridges are
named as
"VIA AC'97 PCI Enhanced Audio Device"
Intel ICH2/ICH3/ICH4 family south bridges that MUST also use VIA codec
(VT1616/VT1617/VT1612/VT1613) are named as "VIA AC'97 Audio Codec"
SiS family south bridges that MUST also use VIA codec
(VT1616/VT1617/VT1612/VT1613) are named as "VIA AC'97 Audio Codec"

It works.
It does not have a lot of fancy features and its tray icon feature disables
XP's "hide inactive icons" toolbar feature....
Is there an alternative from Via--more effects or is this it?
Tx,
S
