Default Downloading Windows 7?

Has anyone had any problems with the
downloadable version?

I'm running a DL version of Win7 Ultimate, but be warned it is
a big download. And of course with big downloads, the
slightest hitch, and it is unuseable.
eBay has a vast collection of Windows 7 offerings many at
low prices, most calaiming to be genuine, some boxed with
key. You take your pick.

Agreed, but you can't verify it until you have all of it.
And many downloads, other than from MS, are poisoned,
aiming to plant malware, or waste bandwidth.
At least if you buy off eBay you have a complaints path,
eBay comes down heavily on vendors of pirated software,
and there is a good chance of getting your money back if it is
not a legitimate version.

People would knowingly download a bootleg copy of Windows and expect
something other than a bot-ridden compromised copy? That boggles my
mind.

I do know people who have bought netbooks, notebooks, and desktops that
came preinstalled with Windows XP and Vista, though not Win7, who
intended yo instal Linux. They removed and sold the microsoft label off
they computers to others on E-Bay, allowing them to install Windows onto
a different machine using the key on the sticker.

Still not legal, but a possible source for some of these sales?

If they have a supposedly unlimited bandwidth, and are effectively not
paying, they will try anything as there is no cost overhead.

Running a computer for several years wondering if it's compromized,
with good reason to expect it is would be a high cost overhead to me!

Let's be real here. A majority of the pirated copies out there are bot
virus-ridden, bot-ridden or anything else of the sort (Well, at least
not on the initial install). Most of that is BS spread around to keep
people from using pirated copies. Plenty of good reasons not to use the
pirated stuff without having to spread FUD about it.

How much is enough to worry you? A 10% chance is too much for me . . .
and then there's that ethical thing. Take an (admittedly) small risk of
running a compromised machine for years just to use stolen property.

rant

Would you have the same attitude about brake parts for your car? Would
you use stolen or conterfit parts that you knew had a small but
significant chance of failure to save a few bucks?

And really, it's just a few bucks! If you can afford a cable or dsl
connection, you can afford to pay for your software. And if you can't,
then you should move to Linux. "But Linux doesn't run my apps."
Bull**** excuse. No better than "My TV wasn't big enough so I had to
steal a bigger one."

I don't own a windows machine, I run Linux myself for a variety of
reasons. I have no love of Microsoft. But if you choose to use it, the
only honest choice is to pay for it, just like the only honest choice
is to pay for the clothes you wear.

Did you even read my post? I wasn't trying to condone piracy by any
stretch of the imagination. However, I just think the whole trying to
scare people into paying for the software by telling them if they pirate
it the software will be full of spyware and viruses and will make your
dog's hair fall out and cause you to wake up hourly while you sleep to
use the bathroom is just silly. Let's just stick to the facts. Thing is,
people that are going to pirate software are going to do so, no matter
what you say. These are the same people that have always pirated movies,
copied cassettes off their friends, etc...

Also, I think this whole thread was started off by someone trying to do
a LEGAL download of windows 7 (which can be done, BTW) and asking if it
was a reliable way of getting it as opposed to buying a physical copy.

Yes I did, and yes, you are correct. You never hinted that you support
theft. In fact, it was clear to me that you did not.

Sorry if my rant implied that you did.
