Default Windows 7 and IE8 problem

I bought a new Windows 7 computer from HP. Windows 7 comes with IE8.

Turns out that most people have a problem problem with IE8: Whenever you
open a new website from a shortcut, the new window opens in the "normal
size" (partial screen), instead of in the "maximized" size which fills the
whole screen. (I am not talking about a "full" screen.)

This is a real nuisance because it means you have to click on the "maximize"
field in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Judging by the number of
posts on this subject, this is a common problem. The bigger problem is that
nobody has a solution. (Re-sizing the screen and closing it, does not work.)
HP has not solution, either.

Has anyone come across a solution to this pain? Anyone in this group who is
afflicted with the same problem?

Thanks

Walter

Have you tried , when you maximize IE window, do it by clicking on the
borders and dragging it to the maximized size, rather than using the
maximize button? Then close it normally.
Not sure about Win 7, but I believe at one time in the past that did the
trick

That works fine in Win7 on my notebook. But maximizing it and then closing
it brings it back up maximized also.

Just drag the window to as big or small as you want then do file exit and it
will open at the same size you closed it. That's the way its always been its
not something different in IE 8 Or Win 7

I know. I was just saying that although "most people" (as stated by Walter
E.) have a problem with it, I'm not. And that Don's method works also. It
works for me like it has since IE4 or 5 (or thereabouts).

I'm not; my ISP is. Charter's news provider blows chunks.
