XP service Pack will not install

Hi,
I upgraded a CPU and Motherboard to a Pentium IV
processor on an Intel MB for a client today, and when I
went to windows update to load SP2 I received an error
saying the product key might be pirated!?!?! and that I
could not proceed with the Service Pack installation.
What the ----! The OS was purchased from a retail store
and I can find nothing on the MSKB about this. Any
suggestions?? Besides telling my client to switch to
Linux??

Run the Windows XP Product Key Validation Assistant:

You receive a "The product key used to install Windows is invalid" error message:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update:

"The product key used to install Windows is invalid"

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)

That's Lovely.

So, in order to support your product, my client must spend
the money to buy a copy of software that they have ALREADY
purchased once before? Nice Anti-piracy methods. I hope
you at lease screw the bad guys too.
