Shenan,
My scanner is HP psc 2410. I don't really want to reinstall the HP software for this printer. But if there is no way around it I'll have to. Any idea why the bulit in XP scanner software does not offer pdf scans? Reggie D. "Shenan Stanley" wrote: Reggie D. wrote: Is it possible to scan as pdf file? Any idea why the bulit in XP scanner software does not offer pdf scans? You will have to install the software if you want features like that (or you will have to use some other software that can save to PDF (got Office 2007 with the proper "Save As" AddOns installed?)) Yes - Windows XP is 7-8 years old. When it was released, PDFs weren't as popular as they are now and so - it probably was not included as a way to scan natively in the OS. Will it/is it in newer OSes - really don't know... You could scan in whatever manner allowed and then use a freeware PDF printer to print the scan to PDF format if you really don't want to install the software that allows you to do it natively with the product you have. PDFCreator (freeware) works really well in my opinion. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Actually scanners generally scan into an image file or files(multipage
scan). Programs that accompany the scanner or third party programs convert the image file(s) into other types of files. A PDF file is a bit peculiar, in that it was originally an adobe format file. If it's a document that was scanned, then some sort of graphics to text conversion needs to take place before the text is usable. If the image is directly converted to a PDF file, it will generally still be an image. An image can also usually be imbedded as an image in a word doc file, although the file size may change considerably. Sometimes, utilities that are included with scanners have problems converting to multipage PDF files. "Reggie D." wrote in message ... Is it possible to scan as pdf file?
