Default Class not registered error

I have reinstalled fresh version of W7 (Home Premium) and am trying
to re-install the software. One package is giving me the error 'class
not registered' when I try to execute any program in the package -
which was working in the W7 replaced. The reinstall was 'fresh' - I
reformatted the drive first.

I googled the subject and tried everything suggested I think.
Anyone?

Thanks

Big Fred

Oh, come on, let us know the secret! Which package is that?

That might provide more of a clue than you so far have given us.

I'm sorry. I didn't think that was important. It was the various
programs in the AVS4YOU package. AVS Video Editor for example.

Well, it's not important to me, since, to be honest, I don't know the
package at all, but other readers of this NG might very well know
something about that particular package and because of that, they might
be able to help you.

Here's why I asked: Your problem is both unusual and specific, i.e., it
only affects one package, so IMO, knowing the particular program
involved is pretty important.

Thank you for passing along that info. Now let's hope it finds someone
who can help you.

Tried the AVS Support option ?
http://support.avs4you.com/login.aspx

It's licensed software with registration via an email address (and
password). The product site provides the ability to logon and ask
questions of the manufacturer.

Did the error messsage dialog box say 'Microsoft Visual Basic' and
include additional information such as 'Looking for object CLSID..'?

Did the message provide a dialobg box with file names that did not
registry properly ?

If Windows is not updated to Service Pack 1 level, do so...then attempt
to reinstall the AVS4You suite of products.

Suggesting "AVS4YOU Class not registered" as a Google search.

http://forum.avs4you.com/posts.aspx?lng=ENG&t=4464

"AVS Video Editor 6.2: Class not registered,
ClassID:{2CDC3E23-BC2C-4FD6-B864-60EA2F61DFA1} - OK - program ends

I think I answered the problem by installing AVS Video Converter.
As soon as I launched it, both programs started working. No ClassID
errors. Works perfectly although I don't know why AVS Video Editor
wouldn't work without Video Converter,. But it did."

If you had written down that CLSID and thrown that into the
Google search, it might have been even more specific to the problem.

The Registry contains Class IDs. It allows a level of indirection,
in terms of looking things up. AVS Video Editor says "I need an
MPEG4 converter". It uses the Class ID and the Registry, to
find the application currently bound to that ID. It adds
more flexibility to the Registry, by not just recording
a path to the executable directly.

Installing the AVS Video Converter, would register some
Class IDs. And later, the AVS Video Editor would do some
kind of lookup via the Registry, to find the converter.
Without actually putting C:\Program File\AVS Video Converter\avsprogramname.exe
in there as an explicit connection to the converter program.

You could search the registry for 2CDC3E23-BC2C-4FD6-B864-60EA2F61DFA1
once you've installed the Video Converter.

Actually, I get the same error for all six of the programs in that
package that I tired. I have queried the vendor, but no response as
yet.

AVS Video Converter is one of the six I tried. So, to benefit from
your wisdom, I re-downloaded and installed it, and it worked!. Then I
tried all five of the others without reinstalling, and they work.

Go figger.

Thanks
