Windows 7 64bit Windows Update - KB3021917?
I ran the Windows Update today and 13 of 14 updates were selected for update.
One update - KB3021917 - was not selected and was not updated. Anyone know what this update is and why it was not selected? Is it safe to update with it? Thanks Charlie |

Thanks Charlie https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3021917 Core-fundamentals-clientperformance-perftrack.ptxml Perftrack.dll Powertracker.dll Wdi.dll Diagnostic System Host Associated with ETW logging (the working bits, would be in the kernel) Some of those files, will be a bit harder to trace down, as to function. The wrong kind of web sites, show up in a search. I got lucky on the wdi.dll one. ETW logging would be used by things like ProcMon or by the XPerf package that does Windows bootup timing for you (measures how long it takes to boot). Those are things that might use ETW. As for what Microsoft fixed in those, who knows... Paul |

Thanks - I will probably go ahead and install it/ After reading what it does, it sounds like it is used to give MS info from your computer to help them out with you possibly upgrading your OS. I will wait on that one. -- Buffalo |

I have an image backup if there are problems after Windows Updates. I schedule my Acronis Backup on the 7th of the month. 2nd Tuesday of the month cannot be on or before the 7th, thus I always have a relatively recent image. Never used it for WU but why not have it?!!! |

How would you use the restore point that it creates. Don't need it right now, but for the future....... It's just an ordinary restore point, so there's nothing special about using it. If you start typing "system restore" in the search line in the Start Orb, one choice will be "Restore system files and settings from a restore point". Click it and follow the prompts. Or open the control panel and find it. One way (in Category View) is to click on system and Security, then find "Restore your computer to an earlier time" (under Action Center) & click it. -- Gene E.
