Cool Real player won't download you tube videos

First can I say I know many will find this stupid, but it is something I really want to do. I am using HP quad core Windows 7, explorer 10. I am not familiar with the ins and outs. I just want to know what the kkkkkkkkk I can do to do this. I know it is a problem for many, but it used to work just fine, and if any of you can dummy it down to my level, I would be greatful. I have uninstalled and reinstalled , and that didn't do anything. I did not loose any of my music or videos. Other than this 1 thing the program works with my offline video editing programs . I use Cyberlink to make beautiful dvds until now. Thanks!!

Youtube changed something in mid-January, which broke another
Downloader tool as well. They do this occasionally, on purpose,
and anyone (Real Player included) must reverse-engineer the
changes, to try to defeat the protection against downloading
the way you want it. So for any tool which claims to be
a "downloader", the software developer must be constantly
maintaining it, and releasing new versions.

In the past, someone mentioned a web site, which is a kind
of proxy downloader. It would work like this.

You --------- proxy_downloader -------- Youtube.com server

How that works, is effectively the proxy_downloader
pretends to be a "customer playing a video", and it
extracts the video from its computer memory and makes
a file for you to have. Something like that.

Whereas, you've been doing it like this. This will work
again, as long as fresh, up to date versions of the
Downloader application, correct any changes Youtube made
on their end.

You (Downloader App) ------------------ Youtube.com server

I'd give you the names of some stuff to use, but I'm not
a Youtube guy. I have trouble just keeping my shoe laces tied :-)

Basicly the above is correct, it's the old lock and key logic, e.g. new
lock requires new key. uTube does this on purpose because they want/need
you to have to return every time to redownload to then watch the same
video again and again and ... They obviously do this for money, e.g.
more ads and also to prevent others using "links etc." to their site for
just the video portion of the page.

The one sure fire method requires some courage because it requires you
to turn off your pc "HARD". By that I mean pull out the power cord. When
you restart, the temporary file that contained the video on your pc
remains, unlocked so can be copied etc. Means you have to know where to
look for the file etc. but I've found once I rename it to the flv
extension I can change it's format etc. and I no longer need uTube to
watch it.

The difficulty in keeping a local copy of a uTube video (and most others
also) means I seldom bother even following links to uTube. Maybe 1/6
dozen in last 5 years. Last one a year ago or so I couldn't resist
because it showed me how to change blades in my planer using the exact
same model I own.

Try out a downloader from dvdcideosof.com
All you need to do is copy and pasteg the link, click go and the video
downloads.

Next time you try this, instead of powering the machine off, just go in
the task manager and just terminate the browser. That should keep the
temp files and leave them in an unlocked state.

Can I recommend shoes with Velcro ties? Works for me.

I haven't bothered to D/L a YouTube video for a while, so this thread
is informative...and I'll try to remember it when my next attempt
fails.

Good idea, I'll try that next time I must. That said, I assumed Task
Manager at least sends a "Terminate" message to an app to try and
terminate it nicely before just killing it. I would assume IE would
then have a chance to cleanup before exiting so that may not work?

That's my opinion too.

So I tried it. Notepad++ was open with an unsaved file, so I used TM
and closed it. It went away without a whimper...

Looks like we're wrong - but perhaps there are programs that do catch &
process whatever signal TM sends.

But do be aware that TM's dialog box does say that you will lose any
unsaved data if you say Yes.

I used to have a pair of running shoes with Velcro strips, but I lost them :-)

As for Youtube, the few times I've viewed things like tutorials
or reviews, the people don't know what a video editor tool is,
and some don't even know how to "script" their presentation.
One boob just shot a video, got about half way through, and
"sorta ran out of things to say". Never bothered to edit the
shoot at all (edit out the dead air), and just uploaded it
like that. Youtube might as well be random noise. I would
be hard pressed to invest any energy into getting a downloader
working.

One other person suggested CamStudio. I like the idea
of screen captures, as a way to snag video, but when I
tested CamStudio, it only managed a capture rate of 7FPS
(real capture rate). And I don't know if throwing more
processor cores at it, makes it go faster or not. Perhaps
FRAPS would be better. Some of the problem, seems to be
the attraction to "compression" that some of these
screen capture applications have. Just about any attempt
to compress, is going to drop the frame rate too low.
If would make more sense, to get the GPU to help out,
but I expect the GPU is designed to not grab stuff
like we'd want it to.

My favorite trick is the person who shoots a whole video explaining
what he or she is doing, while the action is outside the field of view.

But the good ones are fine, if you're willing to waste (oops - I mean
spend) a bit of time looking at several videos.
